SW200-1

One name. Different executions.

The SW200-1 combines a date with a 4 Hz beat rate in a 4.60 mm movement. The name is only the beginning: the grade, finishing, and regulation specified by the watch brand help explain why two watches using it can make different timekeeping promises.

My take

What I would look for

I would look for a clearly stated grade and accuracy commitment before paying more for a watch on the strength of its SW200-1. The movement is one part of the decision; case proportions, service arrangements, and the rest of the watch still deserve just as much attention.

What it brings

  • A 4 Hz beat rate produces eight small seconds-hand steps per second.
  • Hand winding, hacking, and a quickset date cover everyday setting needs.
  • At 4.60 mm, the movement is thinner than the NH35A.

What to weigh up

  • The caliber name does not tell you its grade or a watch brand’s final accuracy tolerance.
  • A typical 41-hour reserve is not enough for a full Friday-evening-to-Monday-morning break.
  • A thin movement does not guarantee a thin finished watch.

Beyond the spec sheet

Living with the SW200-1

Read the watch brand’s accuracy claim

Sellita’s current technical guide lists Elaboré, Top, and Chronomètre executions. The finished watch may be regulated to a brand-specific tolerance. For example, Circula lists −5/+7 seconds per day for the AquaSport II’s Elaboré movement; that is a Circula specification, not a promise for every SW200-1. [source]

Keep the two reserve figures together

“38 hours” and “41 hours” can both describe this movement correctly: Sellita gives a minimum of 38 and a typical value of 41. Neither number measures how much energy is left after a particular day of wear. [source]

Follow the finished watch’s setting instructions

Hand winding and hacking are provided, but crown construction and date-setting instructions belong to the watch you own. Use its manual to identify the winding position and the period when quicksetting the date should be avoided.

Quick answers

Common questions

How accurate is the Sellita SW200-1?

There is no single figure that safely describes every SW200-1 watch. Check the execution or grade and the watchmaker’s published tolerance. A chronometer claim also needs the relevant certification; the SW200-1 name alone does not provide it.

Is its power reserve 38, 41, or 65 hours?

Sellita’s SW200-1 document specifies at least 38 hours and a typical 41 hours. The 65-hour figure belongs to the separately named SW200-2 power+. Always check the exact caliber and the watch’s production version.

Does 4 Hz mean it is more accurate than the NH35A?

Frequency describes the oscillator’s rate. It is not an accuracy guarantee. The eight-beat sweep looks finer than a six-beat sweep, but the finished watch’s regulation and timekeeping specification are what matter when assessing accuracy.
